SEA La Vie
Kalogria Beach in Sithonia, Halkidiki — clear Aegean water and pine shade

Kalogria Beach Guide

Kalogria Beach,
Sithonia.

Overview

A long, shallow bay sheltered by pines.

Kalogria Beach sits on the western coast of Sithonia, the middle of the three peninsulas of Halkidiki in northern Greece. The bay is long and gentle, with fine sand, water that stays shallow for many metres, and a treeline of Aleppo pines that comes almost down to the shore.

The beach is partly organised — a few small tavernas and beach bars rent sunbeds in summer — but most of the shoreline remains open and quiet, especially toward the rocky ends of the bay. The water is calm on most days, with light afternoon winds from the northwest.

Why travellers come

  • Family-friendly water. The shallow shelf and gentle slope make it one of the safest beaches in Sithonia for young children.
  • Pine shade. The trees come close enough to the sand that you can find shade without a parasol.
  • Sunsets. West-facing — the sun drops directly into the Aegean and the bay turns gold for the last hour of light.
  • Snorkelling at the edges. The rocky ends of the bay hide small fish and clear pools.

Practical tips

  • Best months: late May to late September. June and September are warm, clear, and noticeably quieter than August.
  • Getting there: approximately 1h 45m by car from Thessaloniki Airport (SKG). A car is useful for exploring the rest of Sithonia.
  • Parking: small free parking areas above the beach. Arrive before 11:00 in August.
  • Food: a few seaside tavernas serve fresh fish and Greek staples; bring water and fruit for longer beach days.
  • Bring: reef-safe sunscreen, water shoes if you plan to swim at the rocky edges, and a light layer for the evening breeze.
