Things to Do in Sithonia

Slow days,
quiet pleasures.

Sithonia rewards a slow rhythm. These are the things we'd recommend to a friend over a long lunch — boat days, hill villages, quiet swims and a few drives worth taking. Pair any of them with mornings on the terrace and afternoons at the beach.

Spend a day on the water around Diaporos

From Vourvourou on the east coast, small boats can be rented by the day to explore the Diaporos archipelago — shallow turquoise bays, uninhabited islets, and quiet anchorages perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

Drive the southern loop to Karydi and Porto Koufo

A full half-day drive south along the western coast to Karydi Beach (smooth white pebbles, translucent water), continuing to Porto Koufo — a near-enclosed natural harbour with seafood tavernas at the water's edge.

Catch sunrise at Sarti, facing Mount Athos

Sarti's long sand beach faces directly toward the silhouette of Mount Athos. Sunrises here are unusually beautiful — the holy mountain emerges from the haze as the sun climbs behind it.

Walk through Nikiti's old town

Above the modern coastal village, the old town climbs a low hill — stone houses, narrow lanes, plane trees and a few tavernas under vines. Best in the cooler hours.

Snorkel the rocky ends of the bays

Many Sithonia beaches end in rocks, sea grass and clear pools. Spathies, the edges of Kalogria, Karydi and the small coves between Lagomandra and Neos Marmaras all reward a mask and a slow swim.

Slow lunch at a family-run taverna

Fresh fish from the local boats, grilled simply with olive oil and lemon; a Greek salad with thick local tomatoes; cold white wine or tsipouro. The kind of meal Sithonia does best.

Visit Porto Carras winery near Neos Marmaras

One of the largest organised wineries in Greece, with tours and tastings during the summer season — a calm afternoon activity inland from the coast.

Take a quiet morning swim at Kalogria

Before the day warms, the bay is glass-still and the light is soft. A short walk down from the studio, no road to cross.

Watch the sun drop into the Aegean from the terrace

The west coast faces the sunset directly. Most evenings end with the bay turning gold and the air cooling enough for a light layer.
