Spathies Beach Guide
A quieter cove,
just down the coast.
Overview
Clear water, pine and rock.
Spathies Beach sits a short drive south of Nikiti on the western coast of Sithonia. It is smaller and rockier than Kalogria — a sequence of little coves with pine and olive trees coming close to the water, fine pebbles and patches of sand. The water is very clear, with a deeper drop than Kalogria.
The beach is mostly informal — a beach bar runs in high summer, but much of the shoreline stays open and unbuilt. It rewards travellers who want a quieter swim and a stretch of coast that still feels close to nature.
Why visitors come
- Snorkelling. Rocks, sea grass and clear water make it one of the better spots near Nikiti for snorkelling.
- Quiet swims. The small coves spread out the few people who come, even in August.
- Pine shade. The trees come close to the shore — easy to find a shaded spot without a parasol.
- Sunset light. West-facing, with warm late-afternoon light across the rocks.
Getting there from Sea La Vie
From SEA La Vie Studio at Kalogria, Spathies is a short drive south along the coastal road past Nikiti — approximately 10–15 minutes by car. Parking is informal, in clearings above the coves.
Many guests pair a morning at Spathies with lunch at one of the family-run tavernas in or around Nikiti before returning to the studio's terrace for the afternoon.
Practical tips
- Best months: June and September for clear, calm water and very few people.
- Bring: water shoes (rocky entries), snorkel and mask, plenty of water and shade.
- Facilities: minimal — a seasonal bar in summer, no lifeguards. Bring everything you need.
Nearby
- Kalogria Beach — long sandy bay, shallower water, the home beach of Sea La Vie.
- Lagomandra Beach — organised and family-friendly, a short drive south.
- Agios Ioannis — small beach with a chapel on the rocks, picturesque at golden hour.
